Ignite Creates 911 Memorial
IGNITE WORLDWIDE, INC. CREATES AN UNFORGETTABLE 9/11 MEMORIAL FOR THE EASTERN AIR DEFENSE SECTOR
Rochester, NY – November 16, 2009 – Ignite Worldwide, Inc. unveiled a 9/11 Memorial for the New York Air National Guard: Eastern Air Defense Sector on Griffis Air Force Base in Rome, NY. The 11'x13' display memorial clearly represented all three incidents of September 11, 2001; United Flight 93, the Pentagon and the World Trade Center. Ignite Worldwide was contracted to design, build and install the entire memorial project. The project includes a photograph of the skyline of New York City, three display cabinets that showcase an artifact of the Twin Towers, an artifact of the Pentagon and will soon include a piece of land from the Flight 93 crash site. Ignite Worldwide, Inc. hired Res Exhibit Services in Rochester to help in the creation of the Memorial.
In recent media interviews, Col. Dawne Deskins was quoted as saying, "September 11th was a defining moment for this unit. Our mission completely changed on that day and the way we protect the country today is a direct result of those attacks. I will certainly never forget standing on the operations floor on 9/11 and the range of emotions I felt that morning. Going through the Port Authority and seeing the remains from the two towers brought back many of those feelings. This memorial is a local reminder to everyone that was on duty then and today of the importance of the EADS mission."
"This is a beautiful tribute that affected so many and I am so proud to be a part of this memorial. It was truly an amazing experience being on Griffiss Air Force Base and meeting the men and women that protect us every day," states Wendy Brabon, CEO of Ignite Worldwide.
Brooke A. Davis, Executive Officer/Community Manager for the Eastern Air Defense Sector expresses that, "The Ignite Worldwide Team was extremely professional and which helped the project progress nicely."
The Eastern Air Defense Sector is charged with monitoring and controlling one million square miles of the nation's busiest airspace east of the Mississippi. This airspace accounts for 75 percent of the air traffic in the country. The Eastern Air Defense Sector is one of two air defense sectors assigned to 1st Air Force. The mission at EADS is to provide continuous air sovereignty and execute counter–air operations over the eastern United States. The unit directs the employment of more than 140 radar sensors, 8 fighter alert locations, AWACS aircraft, a Battle Control Center (BCC), and joint air defense artillery assets to defend one million square miles, 16 major cities, and adjacent seas.
The "Tribute in Light" memorial is in remembrance of the events of Sept. 11, 2001, in honor of the citizens who lost their lives in the World Trade Center attacks. The two towers of light are composed of two banks of high wattage spotlights that point straight up from a lot next to Ground Zero.
